At Nangle & Niesen, we believe that a magnificent canopy is only as strong as the roots that anchor it. For over 50 years, we have perfected the art of growing hardy Irish trees that don't just survive transplanting—they thrive. Our production philosophy is a blend of traditional horticultural wisdom and modern soil science, ensuring every tree we lift is prepared for a lifetime of growth in your landscape.

The secret to a successful landscape project lies beneath the surface. We dedicate immense resources to developing dense, fibrous root systems—the engine room of the tree.
Precision Root Pruning: Before a sapling ever touches our fields, it undergoes rigorous root pruning in our humidity-controlled facilities. We remove coarse taproots to stimulate a complex network of feeder roots.
Transplanting for Vitality: We don't just plant a tree and leave it. Our trees are lifted and transplanted every 5 to 7 years. This "undercutting" process acts as a natural root prune, keeping the root ball compact, robust, and ready for safe lifting.
The Result: A tree that absorbs water and minerals efficiently, ensuring immediate establishment and minimal transplant shock when it reaches its final home.
We are stewards of the land. Our soil management program is designed to create the perfect microcosm for specimen tree production. We don't just guess; we continually monitor biological activity, pH levels, and trace elements to ensure optimal health.
Symbiotic Strength: Upon planting, we introduce a specialized Symbio mycorrhizal bacterial simulator. This biological boost accelerates root development and enhances nutrient uptake.
Enriched Earth: We treat our soil with locally sourced, well-rotted organic manure and quarried lime. We also incorporate Enrich Pro-Grow—a nutrient-rich blend of compost and grit—to improve soil structure.
Green Manuring: To recharge the land, we utilize green crops containing clover, chicory, and plantain. When mulched back into the earth, these crops increase humic content, improve drought resistance, and naturally suppress soil-borne pathogens.

A Nangle & Niesen tree is recognized by its balanced crown and dominant leader. From the first season, our team employs formative pruning to create a structure that is aesthetically pleasing and structurally sound. By carefully managing the "head" of the tree, we reduce wind resistance stress and ensure the tree is perfectly adapted for the unique—and often challenging—Irish climate.
