Tree Information

'He who plants a flower, plants it for himself but the man who plants a tree, plants it for humanity'

Trees are valuable for many reasons. They provide beautiful and varied landscapes, shelter from harsh weather conditions, privacy and screening, enhance the environment improving air quality, they provide habitats for birds and other flora and fauna etc. More than any other plant, trees give a sense of permanence and maturity to a landscape and are beautiful for their diversity in shape and form as well as their seasonal characteristics including colour and texture of foliage, flowers, bark and berries.

It is advisable to plant trees when they are dormant since that is when it is least disruptive to the tree to handle them. Trees enter dormancy in the autumn and come out of dormancy in the spring, influenced by weather conditions. It is more obvious when to plant deciduous trees as their dropping of leaves in autumn signals entering dormancy and the unfurling of their buds in spring signals coming out of dormancy.
